Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Dec 26 (NationPress) A clip featuring a young woman sharing her experience of alleged sexual harassment by an older male passenger on the Namma Metro has gained significant traction on social media, garnering admiration for her bravery in confronting the perpetrator and filing a police report.
In the footage, the woman describes how the incident unfolded during her commute home from work.
She explained that she had successfully taken a seat on the Metro and was initially sitting comfortably between two fellow commuters.
"Up until halfway through the ride, everything felt normal. Everyone was absorbed in their own devices," she recounted.
The situation took a turn when the individual next to her disembarked, and a new passenger took his place.
According to her account, the new passenger sat uncomfortably close, which made her uneasy.
She attempted to shift her position to create some distance, initially believing the close contact was unintentional.
However, the woman alleged that the man then purposefully brushed his leg against hers, and despite her requests for him to move, he persisted in his actions.
"After a few moments, his hand came into contact with mine again. That's when I understood this was not an accident, but a deliberate act," she stated, expressing her shock at the realization of what was occurring.
Upon realizing her stop was approaching, she decided to take action, fearing that the man would target others if she stayed quiet.
"I felt an overwhelming surge of anger. I'm someone who reacts instinctively. When this happened, I was momentarily paralyzed. But as soon as I knew my station was near and that I couldn’t let this person go unchecked, I resolved to act," she stated.
"I stood up and slapped him. I delivered a strong slap and told him to get up," she recounted, noting that the man got off at the same station.
The woman also claimed she slapped him again on the platform as he pleaded, displaying mixed expressions.
She remarked, "Despite everything, he was also smiling. He exhibited a pained look yet was grinning. He seemed to be in denial, mumbling something in Kannada that I couldn’t comprehend. He didn’t openly admit his wrongdoing. He kept saying sorry but also something else."
As per the victim, Metro security personnel intervened and escorted them both to the Metro office.
She insisted on contacting the police to file a formal complaint.
Subsequently, she filed a report at the Upparpet Police Station.
Authorities stated that the incident transpired around 7 p.m. on December 23.
A non-cognisable report has been filed against the man under allegations of indecent behavior and sexual harassment, according to police.
Investigations are underway, with police reviewing CCTV footage from the Metro.
The alleged perpetrator has been identified as a 45-year-old man, and police confirmed that appropriate measures will be taken based on the investigation's outcome.
