New Delhi, Aug 31 (NationPress) The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) has reached a remarkable milestone with the nationwide integration of e-Government services on DigiLocker and e-District platforms. Citizens across all 36 states and union territories in India can now conveniently access nearly 2,000 digital services anytime and anywhere, as stated by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Sunday.
The integrated services encompass a broad range of citizen requirements, including certificates, welfare schemes, utility payments, and other vital facilities, ensuring convenience, efficiency, and transparency in service delivery. This achievement represents a significant step forward in realizing the vision of the Digital India initiative, promoting paperless and mobile governance while directly contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as per the statement.
DigiLocker has established itself as a strong foundation of India’s digital public infrastructure by effectively addressing challenges related to interoperability, data security, and multi-stakeholder coordination. Its innovative and resilient framework has facilitated ease of access, inclusivity, and reliability, empowering citizens nationwide with trusted digital services.
With this development, citizens in Maharashtra have the highest number of services available at 254, followed by Delhi with 123, Karnataka with 113, Assam with 102, and Uttar Pradesh with 86. Additionally, Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir each provide 77 services, while Andhra Pradesh offers 76 and Gujarat provides 64. Similarly, Tamil Nadu and Goa extend 63 services each, whereas Haryana offers 60 and Himachal Pradesh delivers 58. In total, 1,938 services are currently accessible to citizens across the country.
Building on this achievement, NeGD intends to further enhance the portfolio of e-Government services by incorporating emerging technologies with an AI-driven approach. Structured training programs and workshops will be organized to bolster awareness at the state level, while ongoing innovation will ensure greater inclusivity and improved last-mile service delivery, as indicated in the statement.
This milestone highlights the government’s commitment to utilizing technology to empower citizens and transform governance, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a digitally enabled and inclusive India, as stated.
The National e-Governance Division was established by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology as an Independent Business Division under the Digital India Corporation, a section 8 not-for-profit entity. Since 2009, NeGD has played a crucial role in assisting MeitY with program management and implementation of e-Governance projects, providing technical and advisory support to ministries, departments, and other government organizations at both central and state levels.
NeGD’s primary operational domains comprise program management, project development, technology management, capacity building, and awareness and communication activities under the flagship Digital India Programme. NeGD has developed and manages several National Public Digital Platforms including DigiLocker, Entity Locker, UMANG, OpenForge, API Setu, myScheme, India Stack Global, Meri Pehchaan, and UX4G.
