Fatehpur (UP), Oct 17 (NationPress) In a scene filled with emotional intensity and heightened security, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited the family of Hariom Valmiki--the Dalit individual who was brutally lynched in Raebareli, UP, under accusations of theft. He pledged to offer them comprehensive support.

During his half-hour meeting with the grieving family, Gandhi stated to reporters: "Recently, a Dalit officer took his own life. I paid my respects then, and today I stand with this family. The true crime lies against them, yet they are being treated as criminals. They have been confined to their home, intimidated, merely seeking justice."

The Congress leader emphasized that the family was under immense duress. "They have lost their son and brother to murder. All they seek is justice, yet they cannot even step out of their own home. A young girl in there requires surgery, but the government’s actions have kept them trapped," he alleged.

Gandhi called upon the Uttar Pradesh government to act decisively: "Dalits across the nation are suffering from violence—murders and sexual assaults are rampant. I urge the Chief Minister to grant this family justice, treat them with respect, and take firm action against the genuine perpetrators. Stop shielding the criminals."

Responding to a video that emerged earlier in the day, showing the family appearing hesitant to meet him, he downplayed the incident. "You witnessed it yourself—the family spoke with me for half an hour. They mentioned that officials had intimidated them this morning, warning them against meeting me. However, that is not the main issue. The crux is that these individuals have committed no offense. Their son was murdered, and the culprits must be brought to justice."

Gandhi reaffirmed that the Congress party would consistently support Dalit families facing injustice. "Wherever Dalits face oppression in this country, the Congress party will be present. We will amplify their voices and advocate for justice," he declared.

Gandhi's visit stirred political unrest in Fatehpur. Posters lined the route of his convoy, urging leaders to refrain from politicizing the tragedy. Locally placed posters read: "No politics, please. We are content with the government's actions."

Subsequently, Congress activists removed several of these posters, claiming that the family was coerced by the authorities into making such statements.

Amid heavy police presence, Gandhi eventually met with Valmiki's family at their home, listened to their concerns, and assured them that his party would support them in their quest for justice.
