New Delhi, Oct 12 (NationPress) The Congress party has vehemently condemned the Uttar Pradesh government regarding Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's interaction with the family of Hariom Valmiki, a Dalit individual who was reportedly lynched in Raebareli on allegations of theft.
In a statement to IANS, Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput accused the BJP-led administration of turning the meeting into a mere photo opportunity instead of pursuing genuine justice. 'This illustrates the true nature of Yogi Adityanath and the BJP. Following such a devastating incident, the government opts for a meeting with the Chief Minister, while in reality, the family rightfully seeks justice, not just a handshake,' Rajput asserted.
He insisted that the state government should promptly declare a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and offer a government job to a member of the grieving family. Drawing a pointed contrast, he challenged the BJP's fidelity to its own supporters.
'I wish to ask the BJP, what transpired with Chandan Gupta, who lost his life during a Tiranga Yatra in Kasganj? Did his family receive a government job or adequate compensation? Even after seven years, they are still struggling. Despite being BJP supporters, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears,' Rajput continued.
Earlier that day, Hariom's family met with CM Yogi at his official residence in Lucknow. The Chief Minister assured them that 'every tear will be accounted for' and that the state would guarantee stringent punishment for the accused through robust legal representation in court.
Hariom's wife, Sangeeta Valmiki, accompanied by her father and daughter, met with the Chief Minister. Post-meeting, she expressed to the media, 'Only Baba (Yogi Adityanath) can safeguard Dalits. We are completely satisfied with the government's response and believe we will achieve justice.'
CM Yogi also guaranteed the family comprehensive support from the government, announcing that they would receive housing under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, and Sangeeta would be offered a permanent position at her current job. He added that the family would benefit from all state welfare schemes.
'Protection, dignity, and justice for the Dalits, the marginalized, and the oppressed are the foremost priorities of this government,' CM Yogi concluded.
