26 Nationals from Myanmar Deported from Manipur

Imphal, Jan 5 (NationPress) On Sunday, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh revealed that a total of 26 nationals from Myanmar, who had entered India through the state's border, were deported back to their home country.
Biren Singh, who also oversees the Home portfolio, stated on X: "A group of 26 Myanmarese nationals who entered India via Manipur's porous border were deported to their home country today.
"The government of Manipur reiterates its commitment to providing humanitarian aid to those escaping war, ensuring their care and dignified return. Nevertheless, the state maintains a strong position against permitting illegal migrants to remain in Manipur.
A senior official from the Manipur Home Department indicated that the Myanmarese individuals were transferred to the authorities of their neighboring country by Manipur police and central forces stationed in the bordering town of Moreh.
Since March 8 of last year, a total of 141 Myanmarese nationals, including women and children, have been deported in four different phases.
In collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and central security forces, 115 Myanmarese nationals were deported last year, which included women and children, across three phases.
Following the military junta's takeover in Myanmar on February 1, 2021, approximately 35,000 individuals, including women, the elderly, and children, sought refuge in 11 districts of Mizoram.
The Myanmarese are currently residing in over 100 relief camps across six districts, while several thousand others stay with relatives or friends, or in rented accommodations, as reported by an official from the Mizoram Home Department.
More than 6,000 Myanmarese nationals have found shelter in various bordering districts of Manipur. Mizoram and Manipur share 518 km and 400 km of unfenced borders, respectively, with Myanmar.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) previously instructed both the Manipur and Mizoram governments in 2022 to document the biometric and biographic data of all Myanmar refugees.
