Imphal, June 20 (NationPress) A total of 29 additional individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 across three districts in Manipur, including Imphal West, on Friday, resulting in a cumulative total of 82 confirmed cases in the northeastern state, as reported by health officials.
According to state health authorities, the new cases include both men and women, with the breakdown as follows: Imphal West (22), Imphal East (6), and Thoubal (1).
As of Friday, the distribution of the total positive cases stands at 52 in Imphal West, 21 in Imphal East, four in Bishnupur, two each in Thoubal and Tengnoupal, and one in Kakching.
Notably, except for the tribal-dominated Tengnoupal district, all other districts are situated within the Imphal Valley region.
The first case of the current wave was reported on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman tested positive for the virus in Manipur. She was from Bishnupur district and exhibited symptoms similar to Covid-19. Her samples were collected at a private clinic in Imphal on June 5, with results confirming the infection on June 9.
Dr. Chambo Gonmei, the Director of Manipur Health Services, urged the public to remain vigilant due to the increasing spread of the virus in various regions of the country.
In a related development, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla held a Covid-19 review meeting at the Raj Bhavan, attended by Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, senior medical officials from the state Health Department, and other key authorities.
The meeting addressed recent guidance from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) regarding enhanced preparedness in light of growing concerns over a potential resurgence of Covid-19.
Officials briefed the Governor on the state’s readiness, covering aspects such as diagnostics, protective gear, oxygen supplies, ICU and isolation facilities, essential medications, and the IDSP–IHIP portal. Various challenges related to testing capacity, medical supplies, and hospital readiness were also discussed. The Governor emphasized the need for proactive measures, robust medical infrastructure, and community awareness to ensure the state is prepared for any possible increase in Covid-19 cases, as reported by officials.
