29 Individuals Deported for Breaching Inner Line Permit Regulations in Manipur: Chief Minister

Imphal, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, reported on Monday that law enforcement recently uncovered 29 individuals breaching Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations, resulting in their deportation to their respective home states.
On November 30, a police unit executed an ILP verification operation in the Mayang Imphal Bengoon area, where they found 29 individuals employed at a bakery who possessed Labour category ILPs.
Upon verification with the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West district, it was confirmed that these permits were not issued in accordance with the Manipur ILP guidelines of 2019, according to Singh.
He stated that the Labour Category ILPs were revoked, and the apprehended individuals were subsequently deported to their home states.
The Home Department has mandated the relevant District Administration and the Deputy Labour Commissioner to investigate these oversights thoroughly and take strict measures against the responsible government officials.
Singh also mentioned that the state government has formed a committee to evaluate the overall enforcement of the ILP in Manipur, chaired by the Commissioner (Home), with members from UIDAI, the Chief Electoral Officer, the Land Resource Department, District Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police.
Instructions have been issued for the committee to present its findings within 15 days, he added.
In light of the turmoil in Bangladesh, all northeastern states, including Manipur, have intensified their surveillance and initiatives against illegal intrusions.
The ILP, governed by the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, serves as an official travel document permitting Indian citizens to visit ILP-enforced regions for a limited duration and specific purposes.
This regulation, aimed at safeguarding the identity and existence of the Indigenous population, is currently in effect in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Manipur.
It is essential for individuals, both Indian citizens and foreigners, who are not indigenous to these northeastern states, to acquire the ILP for entry over a defined period.
Ongoing protests advocate for the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya.
In response to the political instability in Bangladesh, various tribal groups and civil society organizations in some northeastern states are calling for strict enforcement of the ILP to curb the influx of illegal immigrants.
