Three police personnel in Bihar's Bhojpur district have been suspended following departmental action triggered by a viral video from a raid in Bilaunti village under the Shahpur police station limits. The incident, which has ignited debate over police preparedness and accountability, centres on an operation targeting an individual allegedly brandishing illegal firearms.

The Suspension Order

Shahabad Range DIG Dr Satyaprakash ordered the immediate suspension of Shahpur Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar Malakar after a departmental inquiry reportedly found serious lapses in the conduct of duty. The suspension was issued on the recommendation of Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Raj. A Sub-Inspector and a constable who were part of the raiding team have also been suspended.

What the Viral Video Showed

According to officials, the police team had proceeded to Bilaunti village on specific information that Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was allegedly carrying and displaying illegal firearms. During the operation, the situation escalated sharply. A video that subsequently circulated widely on social media allegedly showed Tiwari openly brandishing a pistol and threatening the police personnel present at the scene.

The footage drew considerable public attention and raised pointed questions about the response and operational handling by the officers on the ground. Notably, the inquiry reportedly concluded that the personnel failed to demonstrate the level of alertness, preparedness, and prompt action expected in a high-risk situation of this nature.

The Encounter and Its Aftermath

The disciplinary action comes against the backdrop of a subsequent confrontation involving Bharat Bhushan Tiwari. According to police accounts, the standoff later escalated into an exchange of fire, during which Tiwari sustained a gunshot injury. He was admitted to hospital but later died during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
