New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) A total of 3.84 crore house sites have been geo-tagged as of July 29 in preparation for granting housing to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme, as reported to the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
The Minister of State (MoS) for Rural Development, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, stated in a written response, “Under the PMAY-G, it is essential to upload geo-tagged photos with time and date stamps at every phase of house construction. This includes geo-tagging both the ‘existing site’ and ‘proposed site’ prior to house approval.”
The MoS further explained that the release of funds to beneficiaries is contingent upon reaching specified construction milestones and submitting geo-tagged photos with time and date stamps of that phase via ‘AwaasSoft’ using ‘AwaasApp’.
In updating the progress of the scheme, he remarked, “As of July 29, 2025, 3.84 crore house sites have been geo-tagged before granting houses to beneficiaries under the PMAY-G.”
Pemmasani also shared that the government has authorized the continuation of the PMAY-G to saturate the Awaas + (2018) list (post-update) and the remaining eligible households in the SECC 2011 Permanent Wait List (PWL) by providing aid within an overarching limit of 2 crore pucca houses with essential services from April 2024 to March 2029.
The Awaas+ term in the context of PMAY-G pertains to the beneficiary list compiled from a fresh survey conducted in 2018, which aims to identify eligible households for housing support under the scheme, building upon the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data.
The Ministry has been executing PMAY-G since April 1, 2016, to assist qualified rural households in constructing pucca homes with basic amenities, striving towards the goal of ‘Housing For All’ in rural regions.
The initial target under PMAY-G was to aid in constructing 2.95 crore houses from FY 2016-17 to 2023-24.
The MoS indicated that the government has sanctioned the execution of the scheme during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29 to provide support for building an additional 2 crore houses.
Beneficiaries under PMAY-G are selected based on housing deprivation criteria set out in the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database and the updated Awaas+ survey list.
