New Delhi, June 6 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Friday hosted the Foreign Ministers from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan in New Delhi for the 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue. This event underscores India’s commitment to enhancing anti-terrorism and de-radicalisation efforts throughout the region.
“The 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue has commenced in Delhi. EAM S. Jaishankar received Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu, Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin of Tajikistan, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov of Turkmenistan, Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev of Kyrgyzstan, and Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov of Uzbekistan,” reported Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, on X.
EAM Jaishankar shared his enthusiasm on social media while hosting the five Central Asian foreign ministers, stating, “With Central Asian colleagues at the beginning of the 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue.”
Following the dialogue on Friday, the Central Asian Ministers are scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the evening, concluding their visit to India.
During this fourth dialogue session, the ministers will focus on enhancing ties between India and Central Asian nations, particularly in areas such as trade, connectivity, technology, and development cooperation. They will also discuss regional security challenges and other mutual interests on a broader scale.
“India and Central Asia, located in each other’s 'Extended Neighbourhood', have a long history of diplomatic relations enriched by cultural and people-to-people interactions spanning millennia. The inaugural India-Central Summit was held virtually in January 2022, and the India-Central Asia Dialogue has significantly advanced this relationship,” noted a statement from the MEA.
On Thursday, the Central Asian Foreign Ministers engaged in the India-Central Asia Business Council.
At the Business Council meeting in the capital, EAM Jaishankar encouraged the council to propose a roadmap for deepening India-Central Asia relations in trade, economy, and investment.
He outlined three primary goals for enhancing economic partnerships.
“It was a pleasure to join my fellow Foreign Ministers from Central Asia this evening at the India-Central Asia Business Council. In a world full of uncertainties, our three main objectives for economic collaboration are to deepen existing partnerships, diversify our trade portfolio, and introduce sustainability and predictability into our economic engagements. I highlighted the potential of the digital economy & innovation, financial services, healthcare & pharmaceuticals, connectivity, and streamlined transit as strategies to achieve these goals,” EAM posted on X.
The India-Central Asia Dialogue, initiated in January 2019 in Samarkand, serves as a pivotal platform for fostering relations between India and Central Asia. The second meeting took place virtually in October 2020, addressing regional security, counter-terrorism, and infrastructure development. The third meeting occurred in New Delhi in December 2021, emphasizing connectivity to further strengthen ties between India and Central Asia.
