A young woman was allegedly harassed in broad daylight on Bandh Bypass Road in Jagatsinghpur village, Samastipur district, Bihar, with a video of the incident circulating widely on social media late on Wednesday and triggering swift police action. Samastipur Police have since detained five suspects from the village and initiated a formal investigation. The case comes just days after a similar harassment incident involving a Class 10 girl was reported in Jamui, raising fresh concerns about the safety of women in public spaces across Bihar.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to preliminary information available to police, the girl had stopped along the roadside with a male companion to take photographs when a group of youths allegedly surrounded her and misbehaved with her. The footage, reportedly recorded by an onlooker on a mobile phone, allegedly shows some of the youths questioning the girl about her identity, verbally abusing her, and engaging in inappropriate behaviour. The clip also appears to show an attempt to pull her along the road.

The video began circulating widely across social media platforms late on Wednesday before reaching the notice of law enforcement. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Karpurigram police station, located a few kilometres from the Samastipur district headquarters.

Police Action and Suspects Identified

After the video came to their notice, Samastipur Police moved quickly to identify individuals seen in the footage. Two suspects have been named as Vikas Sharma and Rahul Kumar, both residents of Jagatsinghpur village. Police noted that multiple liquor-related cases are already registered against Vikas Sharma. Authorities have detained a total of five individuals from the village, all of whom are currently being questioned.

Samastipur Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh stated that officials were examining the roles of all individuals seen in the video and had directed the investigating team to expedite the process and take appropriate legal action against those found to be involved.

Investigators are currently working to verify the authenticity of the video, establish the precise time and location of the incident, and identify the person who recorded the footage. Police are also examining whether the viral clip reflects the complete sequence of events or has been circulated in an edited form.
