Agartala, Dec 17 (NationPress) A devastating incident in Tripura has resulted in the loss of at least five lives and left three others injured after the collapse of a brick kiln chimney on workers. According to officials, the unfortunate event took place in Kamalpur, located in the northern part of Dhalai district, while the kiln was operational. Among the deceased, three individuals died at the scene: Subal Debnath (55), Pinku Shil (37), both from Tripura, and Anil Gautam (49), hailing from Uttar Pradesh. The injured workers included two from Jharkhand.
Two critically injured workers, Sajal Malakar (40) and Bidhu Sharma (45), later succumbed to their injuries in government hospitals.
The injured individuals were subsequently moved to the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala for enhanced medical care.
Immediately following the incident, teams from the Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local residents, worked to recover the deceased bodies and rescue the injured, who were transported to local hospitals.
Earlier on the same day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his condolences for the fatalities and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
The brick kiln owner, Souvik Paul, along with his manager, has been apprehended by the police and are currently being held at the Kamalpur Police Station.
Dhalai District Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das and local BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb visited the site to oversee the rescue operations.
In a separate incident, the body of a 19-year-old student was retrieved from the Manu River in the northern region of Unakoti district on the same day by Fire and Emergency Services. According to police, four youths had gone to the river for bathing on Tuesday. While three were rescued by local residents, the student, who later passed away, could not be located on Tuesday.
