Kothamangalam (Kerala), Aug 2 (NationPress) It's quite unusual to witness a mother and son pursuing their education together at the same institution, yet that is exactly what is unfolding at the MA College here.
The 40-year-old mother, Poornima, is enrolled in her first year of a BA in English, while her 17-year-old son, Vyshnav, is embarking on his first year in B.Com.
The remarkable aspect of their educational journey is that they often share the same classroom during language lessons.
Interestingly, they commute on a two-wheeler, with Poornima at the helm of the vehicle, as Vyshnav must wait until he turns 18 to obtain his full driving license next year.
With a smile on her face, Poornima walks alongside her son, experiencing college life not as a mother and son duo, but as classmates.
“I always aspired to complete my graduation long ago, but circumstances delayed my plans... then life led to marriage and raising two children. My husband, Binu, has been my strongest advocate, encouraging me to pursue my graduation. This academic year, I finally decided to enroll,” Poornima shared.
“I have no difficulties fitting in with my younger classmates; in class, we are simply classmates. Achieving my dream of studying in college alongside my son brings me immense joy,” she added.
Vyshnav expressed that he feels no embarrassment about attending college with his mother.
“There’s really no reason for it,” Vyshnav stated.
During lunch breaks, the mother and son enjoy meals together, and they often draw attention as they stroll hand-in-hand across the campus.
Interestingly, Binu, who works as a bus conductor for the state Transport Corporation, is also an alumnus of this college.
