Guwahati, Oct 8 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly condemned opposition figures Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi for what he describes as the politicization of the investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg.
During a press briefing, CM Sarma claimed that Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the leader of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), has engaged in unethical politics since Zubeen Garg's passing in Singapore on September 19.
“Lurinjyoti Gogoi has been making political statements from the moment Zubeen left us. Such behavior is unacceptable. I suggest he should first consider what Zubeen Garg had expressed about his party, the Assam Jatiya Parishad, while he was alive. If Lurinjyoti listens to that, he might reconsider his needless comments,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Additionally, CM Sarma criticized Gogoi's request for access to the post-mortem report of the late singer, labeling it as inappropriate.
“The investigation into Zubeen Garg's death is a matter for the government, his family, and his fans. A political leader like Lurinjyoti Gogoi should not involve himself in or demand access to the autopsy report,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further directed his criticism at Akhil Gogoi, the Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal leader, accusing him of manipulating public emotions for political gain.
“Akhil Gogoi has been engaging in shameful politics surrounding Zubeen's death. It is disgraceful to exploit someone's passing for political advantage. He has contributed nothing to Sivasagar in the last five years, yet he hopes to win by toying with the emotions of the people,” the CM asserted.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also claimed that Akhil Gogoi demonstrated disrespect while paying tribute to Zubeen Garg at the Sarusajai Sports Complex, where the singer's body was available for public homage.
“When we show our respects, we bow before the deceased. However, Akhil Gogoi was seen raising his hands after laying flowers. I have videos of this incident—it was a profoundly disrespectful act,” he concluded.
