Guwahati, Oct 10 (NationPress) Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly condemned the Assam government and state police for what he describes as 'premature arrests' related to the investigation into the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg. He emphasized that genuine justice can only be affirmed once the family of the late singer publicly recognizes it.
In a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi insisted that the investigation into Garg's demise must be carried out with utmost professionalism and integrity.
“In cases involving serious accusations, the Assam Police has the duty to meticulously gather evidence that can withstand legal scrutiny,” he stated.
“With severe allegations such as murder or culpable homicide, a comprehensive inquiry is essential. Regrettably, the necessary in-depth investigation has not occurred, leading to what appears to be hasty arrests instead.”
In response to the ruling BJP's claim that 'justice has been served' in the Zubeen Garg matter, the Congress MP questioned the sincerity of the government's declarations.
“Does the Chief Minister believe that the people of Assam are unaware of the law?” Gogoi posed.
“True justice will only be recognized when Zubeen Garg's family, particularly Garima Garg, steps forward to declare that they have received it. Until that moment, regardless of the BJP's assertions, we cannot accept that justice has been achieved.”
Gogoi further connected the current investigation to a larger demand for transparency and accountability within governance, urging the state government to act with integrity rather than resorting to political rhetoric.
“The Chief Minister's responsibility lies not in making claims but in ensuring that investigations are conducted with honesty and that evidence is presented in court,” Gogoi firmly stated.
Earlier that day, Gogoi also highlighted the increasing strength of the Congress party in Assam, noting that several individuals, including former MLA Virendra Sehtiya and some BJP members who are reportedly feeling disillusioned, have recently joined the party.
He expressed optimism at witnessing young individuals from social service backgrounds entering politics through the Congress platform.
