Panaji, Sep 16 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Goa unit has recently appointed new taluka incharges as part of its strategy to prepare for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, with the goal of enhancing its grassroots presence throughout the state.
In total, ten new incharges have been designated for various talukas.
Adv. Amit Palekar, the president of AAP Goa, mentioned in a statement that these new office-bearers are set to fortify the organizational framework and spearhead election campaigns across all talukas.
This initiative is a crucial element of AAP's dedicated effort to broaden its influence in local elections.
"Our leaders will now take direct responsibility for leading party campaigns and engaging with voters at the taluka level," he emphasized, underscoring the significance of these appointments.
The newly appointed taluka incharges include: Sunil Singnapurkar (Pernem), Shrikrishna Parab (Bicholim, Sattari), Rajesh Kalangutkar (Bardez), Vibhas Prabhudesai (Tiswadi), Sandesh Teleikar Dessai (Mormugao), Prof Ramarao Wagh (Ponda), Gerson Gomes (Salcete), James Fernandes (Quepem, Dharbandora), Patricia Fernandes (Sanguem), and Prashant Naik (Canacona).
Currently, AAP holds two MLAs in the Goa Assembly and is striving to improve upon its previous performance in the Zilla Panchayat elections, where it only secured a victory in Benaulim.
The party has reiterated its intention to contest the upcoming local body elections independently, without any alliances.
AAP's journey into Goan politics started in 2014 when it contested both Lok Sabha seats in the state, achieving a vote share exceeding 3 percent.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, the party's vote share increased to over 6 percent, although it did not win any seats.
The pivotal moment for AAP came during the 2020 Zilla Panchayat elections, marking its first electoral success by winning the Benaulim seat.
During the 2022 Assembly elections, AAP claimed victory in two constituencies and garnered a vote share of nearly 7 percent.
Venzy Viegas triumphed in Benaulim, while Cruz Silva emerged victorious in Velim, marking the party's inaugural presence in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
