Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Virender Singh Kadian, his son Ankit Kadian, and others following allegations of assault and criminal intimidation by a woman from a family of flower vendors. The case was registered on 30 July under Sections 74, 79, 115(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Complainant's Account

The complainant, identified as Jimmi, alleged that the trouble began on 18 July when a man named Niranjan, who claimed to represent the MLA's office, took a bouquet worth ₹500 from her father's flower stall without paying. When her father requested at least ₹300 to recover the cost of the flowers, Niranjan allegedly threatened to have the shop removed, citing his association with the MLA's office.

Later that afternoon, at around 3 pm, Niranjan reportedly lodged a complaint with the Cantonment Board, following which officials allegedly removed the family's shop and seized their belongings.

Alleged Assault at the MLA's Office

Jimmi alleged that when her family visited MLA Virender Kadian's office at approximately 3:30 pm, the MLA signalled his supporters to shut the door. She claimed the MLA slapped her mother and used obscene language. When her husband attempted to record the incident on his phone, a group of eight to ten men allegedly attacked him. According to the complaint, Ankit Kadian struck her husband near the eye, causing bleeding.

Jimmi further alleged that the MLA's son physically assaulted her — touching her inappropriately, hitting her on the chest, and pushing her against a wall. She also alleged that her two-year-old son fell to the ground during the altercation and was struck on the stomach.

Threats and Fear of Persecution

In her FIR, Jimmi stated that throughout the incident, her husband, parents, and other family members were repeatedly threatened with death. 'We managed to escape with our lives, but the accused pursued us outside with the intent to kill. Since this incident, our entire family has been living in fear and terror, and we face a grave threat to our lives and safety from the accused,' she stated in the complaint.

The complainant also alleged that the entire incident was captured on mobile phones and CCTV cameras at the scene and at the MLA's office, and has requested police to secure and seize the footage as part of the investigation.

What the FIR Demands

Jimmi's complaint names Birendra Kadian, Ankit Kadian, Niranjan, and other unidentified individuals as accused. She has urged police to interrogate the accused, arrange medical examinations for the victims, and provide security to her family. Delhi Police have confirmed the FIR has been registered; the investigation is currently under way.

Broader Context

The allegations come at a politically sensitive time for the AAP, which has faced mounting scrutiny over the conduct of its elected representatives in Delhi. This case adds to a pattern of complaints against sitting MLAs that have drawn public attention in recent months. Neither MLA Virender Singh Kadian nor his office had issued a public response as of the time of reporting.
