New Delhi, May 6 (NationPress) Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma has publicly charged the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab with engaging in 'dirty politics' by limiting the water supply to the national capital. He asserted that this act was a deliberate effort to penalize city voters for their decision to oust former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during the Assembly elections held in February.
During a press conference, Verma remarked, “Over the past week, Delhi has been receiving a diminished supply of raw water, all thanks to the unethical maneuvers of the Punjab government, the AAP, and Kejriwal.”
According to Verma, Kejriwal has taken offense to the support of the BJP in Delhi, and in retaliation, his party has curtailed the city’s water supply.
“The government of Punjab has ignored the directives from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and has contravened these by lowering the water supply to Haryana,” he mentioned after inspecting the Tughlakabad area.
In an alleged scheme orchestrated by Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has decreased the water supply to Haryana, which has subsequently affected the supply to Delhi, Verma stated.
He noted that, typically, Delhi receives approximately 980 cusec of water daily from Haryana. “However, on May 1, we received 88 cusec less, on May 2 we got 119 cusec less, on May 3 we received 71 cusec less, on May 4 the deficit was 55 cusec, and on May 5 there was a reduction of 130 cusec,” he elaborated.
“Our daily water quota has been slashed by 15 percent because of the Punjab government and Kejriwal’s vendetta against the voters here,” he added.
“Following the loss in the Delhi elections, Arvind Kejriwal has shifted his focus to Punjab, where he is now retaliating against the people of Delhi by cutting off their water supply,” he asserted.
Verma concluded that the AAP's resentment towards Delhi voters is evident in their dirty political tactics, and the scheme aims to leave the residents of Delhi parched.
“We will not allow these unethical political strategies to prevail. The Union Home Ministry has instructed the Punjab Police to remove security from dams and allow access for officials,” he stated.
