According to a release from the President of India’s office last week, Devvrat will manage the responsibilities of both the Gujarat and Maharashtra governorships concurrently.
This appointment followed the departure of the previous Governor, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who vacated his position after being elected as the Vice President of India.
A statement from the President’s Office on September 11 clarified, “In light of C.P. Radhakrishnan’s resignation from the Governorship of Maharashtra due to his election as Vice President, Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, has been appointed to fulfill the duties of Governor of Maharashtra, alongside his existing responsibilities.”
On Sunday morning, Devvrat, along with his spouse Darshana Devi, traveled from Ahmedabad to Mumbai aboard the Tejas Express.
Bringing with him 45 years of experience in education and administration, Devvrat previously served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh from August 12, 2015, to July 21, 2019. During his tenure, he implemented numerous public engagement programs in Himachal Pradesh, focusing on natural farming, cow protection, social harmony, addiction recovery, tree planting, and water conservation.
Devvrat has been the Governor of Gujarat since July 22, 2019. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has promoted natural farming, leading over 500,000 farmers in Gujarat to transition from chemical-driven agriculture to sustainable practices.
