Kolkata, Feb 5 (NationPress) In anticipation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's speech at the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS)-2025, the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly remarked that the event is entirely centered around fake MoUs.

"BGBS is fundamentally about signing fraudulent MOUs, presenting ambiguous expressions of interest, and issuing Letters of intent that inevitably end up disregarded," Adhikari stated.

He claimed that BGBS-2025, being the 8th iteration of this yearly gathering, lacks genuine business and global significance.

"This event merely showcases polished falsehoods to the people of West Bengal," the Leader of the Opposition expressed.

Adhikari further challenged the Chief Minister to disclose the actual investment in the state, out of the projected Rs 3.76 lakh crore declared during BGBS 2023.

To recall, the previous annual event took place in 2023, and the 2024 edition was inexplicably canceled.

He also mocked the slogan of the event that claims 'Bengal means Business'.

"BGBS is not truly the Bengal Global Business Summit. It's a two-day optical illusion extravaganza, deliberately packaged in glossy wrapping to conceal the industrial stagnation in West Bengal. Under Mamata Banerjee's governance, Bengal lacks the potential to signify business," the Leader of the Opposition remarked.

For some time now, economic and industry analysts have been vocal about two policies they consider significant barriers to attracting substantial investment, both in manufacturing and services.

First, the state's land policy, which negates government intervention in land procurement, poses challenges for large-scale land acquisition necessary for big industries, especially in a state like West Bengal with fragmented land ownership.

Secondly, the government's stance on restricting special economic zone (SEZ) status to new entrants serves as a disincentive for major investments in the services sector, particularly within IT and ITeS.
