Kolkata, Feb 6 (NationPress) The Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS)-2025 has successfully garnered a total of investment proposals valued at Rs 4.40 lakh crore for West Bengal, as announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the concluding day of this prominent annual event aimed at promoting the state as a prime investment hub.
"Over the course of the last two days, we received investment proposals amounting to Rs 4,40,595 crore. Numerous memoranda of understanding were signed during this period," the Chief Minister stated during her remarks at the event's closing session.
According to state government officials, the total of new investment proposals this year notably exceeds the anticipated amount from the previous summit held in 2023, which was Rs 3.76 lakh crore.
The annual summit was not held in 2024.
Banerjee highlighted that 212 MoUs were finalized at this year's event, with the most substantial investment proposal emerging from the oil & gas sector, involving the public sector company ONGC, which will undertake oil and gas exploration in Ashoknagar located in the North 24 Parganas district.
"We allocated 50 acres of land for just Re 1 to ONGC at Ashoknagar for this initiative," she mentioned.
The Chief Minister emphasized the significant advancements in infrastructure development over the past 14 years, which has facilitated a more conducive environment for conducting business in West Bengal.
"No other state in India offers such a business-friendly atmosphere as West Bengal does, thanks to our considerable progress in infrastructure over the last 14 years," she remarked.
Mamata Banerjee also took the opportunity to underscore her government's achievements in social welfare, particularly regarding poverty alleviation.
"We have successfully lifted 1.72 crore people out of poverty in the last 14 years, ensuring that every family in West Bengal has access to various social welfare initiatives," she asserted.
