Bengaluru, June 17 (NationPress) A video capturing the moment when Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar fell from his bicycle during an event at the Vidhana Soudha has taken social media by storm. This incident has sparked conversations regarding his numerous attempts to secure the Chief Minister's position, especially following his recent statement on X.
In his post, he stated, "In the corridors of power, I chose a cycle - because progress doesn’t always need horsepower, just people power," accompanied by a photo of himself biking.
The fall occurred as he participated in the 'Parisara Nadige (March for Environment)' event, collaboratively organized by the Forest Department and the Karnataka Pollution Control Board in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar, clad in goggles, a blue t-shirt, trousers, and sports shoes, was seen riding confidently and flashing victory signs to the media alongside Congress MLA and Karnataka Pollution Control Board Chairman P.M. Narendraswamy and local environmentalists.
However, as he approached the North Gate Entrance to halt his bike, he lost his balance. Despite managing to stop the bicycle, it rolled forward after he dismounted, leading to his fall on the steps.
People nearby, initially unaware of what happened, rushed to assist him. Unfazed by the incident, Shivakumar smiled, walked with confidence, and waved to the media once more.
He later delivered an enthusiastic address at the event, speaking to Scouts and Guides students and announcing a mandate to establish environment and climate change awareness clubs in every school across the state.
He shared, "These clubs must consist of at least 25 students to promote awareness about the crucial fight for nature and environmental consciousness. Schools should adopt areas to plant trees."
Reiterating the government's commitment, he said, "Greenery and cleanliness are our government’s motto. It’s our responsibility to instill this awareness in the next generation. Karnataka's greatest treasure is its nature. Our aim should be to eliminate plastic."
He added, "Every student should adopt one sapling. Currently, over 50,000 children are participating in this initiative. Just two days ago, I was in Delhi and Ahmedabad, where temperatures soared near 49 degrees. In Bengaluru, it’s a pleasant 22-23 degrees. This climate is a precious asset for Karnataka and Bengaluru."
Shivakumar emphasized the connection between humans and nature, saying, "Our lives are deeply intertwined with the environment. Creating clean air, water, and surroundings is our utmost responsibility. Environmental awareness must be fostered among our youth. The environment is our home, and we must act to protect it."
He mentioned that around 5,000 Scouts and Guides children would march around the Vidhana Soudha to raise public awareness about protecting the environment. He reminisced about being part of this organization during his school days and reaffirmed the commitment to its development. "Observing Environment Day is not for us but for future generations," he stated.
Shivakumar concluded by noting that the government has organized numerous awareness programs to promote environmental consciousness among students and the youth, led by Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre and Pollution Control Board Chairman Narendraswamy.
He encouraged the Scouts and Guides students, stating, "You should visit the Vidhana Soudha during your holidays. This place is unique, with the judiciary, executive, and legislature all converging here. Discussions about the future of the country take place here." He chanted slogans alongside the students: "Save green, grow trees. Dispose of waste, grow trees."
