Ahmedabad, Nov 7 (NationPress) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has once again opened the floor for citizens to contribute their ideas for the upcoming 2026–27 budget, striving to enhance city planning and civic services to be more inclusive, efficient, and driven by the community.
As part of this yearly initiative, the civic body has gathered 2,607 inputs from residents across various channels, including 798 through email. Out of these, 1,795 suggestions (68.85 percent) were directed towards essential or required services, while 788 (30.23 percent) were related to non-essential sectors.
Moreover, 16 suggestions (0.61 percent) focused on generating revenue, and 8 (0.31 percent) were aimed at enhancing service delivery. Among the mandatory services, issues that directly impact everyday urban life received the most attention. Roads and walkways were the primary concern with 487 suggestions (18 percent), followed by 327 (12.54 percent) regarding drainage and stormwater systems, 297 (11.39 percent) about water supply, and 280 (10.74 percent) linked to street lighting and electrical works.
Citizens also raised issues regarding solid waste management (4.22 percent), traffic (3.76 percent), and housing (3.76 percent), along with requests for enhancements in public health, education, fire services, and infrastructure like bridges and crematoriums. In the non-mandatory category, residents highlighted urban beautification, health, and public facilities.
Suggestions included gardens, parks, and tree plantations (5.10 percent), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and welfare projects (5.10 percent), public transport (3.07 percent), and sports and recreation facilities (2.88 percent). Other significant inputs encompassed parking management, Smart City initiatives, e-governance, libraries, and parks for senior citizens -- showcasing the growing interest among citizens for sustainability and improvements in quality of life.
According to officials at AMC, the feedback will be thoroughly analyzed to pinpoint actionable reforms and incorporate them into the 2026–27 budget.
