Gandhinagar, July 19 (NationPress) The celebration of Urban Development Year 2025 took place in Ahmedabad on Saturday, graced by the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) organized a program at Tagore Hall in Paldi where several development initiatives were launched in honor of this significant year.

Chief Minister Patel extended his congratulations to the AMC and the citizens for earning the title of the cleanest city in India. He expressed pride in Ahmedabad securing the top spot among cities with populations exceeding 1 million.

Patel highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of cleanliness as a collective movement, emphasizing how it has inspired awareness among all generations—from children to the elderly. He stated, “The mantra of 'Swachhata Hi Prabhuta' resonates from small villages to metropolitan areas.”

He noted that under Modi’s leadership, the challenges posed by urbanization and population growth are being viewed as opportunities rather than obstacles. Patel recalled that the celebration of Urban Development Year began in 2005 under Narendrabhai’s leadership.

He further elaborated on how the groundwork laid since 2005 has led to the ambitious plans for a world-class city, especially as Ahmedabad prepares to host global sporting events. The CM stated, “Today’s program is a step towards realizing this vision.”

During the event, important initiatives such as the Ahmedabad Policy for Good Construction Practices and Urban Greening Policy were announced, aiming to provide citizens with a sustainable, clean, and green environment. A new addition to the riverfront was also unveiled: the Moon Trail Park and the Glow Garden.

Patel emphasized the commitment towards a net-zero carbon footprint, announcing the launch of the country’s first solar-powered electric charging station in Ahmedabad to enhance e-mobility.

Most of the projects inaugurated are set to boost urban development while ensuring environmental protection, with over 70 lakh trees planted and around 320 oxygen parks created in the city in the last three years. “We aspire to make our cities both growth hubs and green spaces,” he added.

Highlighting Prime Minister Modi's goal of a developed India by 2047, Patel shared plans for cities to become growth centers aligned with the vision of 'Viksit Gujarat@2047'. He urged everyone to contribute towards building clean, green, and climate-resilient urban areas.

Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibhaben Jain praised the achievements of the Swachhta Survey 2024-25, attributing the success to the Swachh Bharat Mission and the citizens' dedication to cleanliness.

During the event, awards from the Swachhta Survey were presented to the Chief Minister by Jain and AMC Commissioner Banchanidhi Pani. The Chief Minister recognized the efforts of Safai Praharis who significantly contributed to the city's cleanliness.

The program was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Ahmedabad MP, local MLA, Deputy Mayor Jatin Patel, and other municipal officials and citizens.
