Will the AI Century Shape India’s Infrastructure and Sovereignty?

Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) The Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, Jeet Adani, stated on Thursday that the pertinent question is no longer if India will engage in the AI century; instead, it is whether this era will reflect India's identity in its infrastructure — through her intelligence, standards, and values.
During the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, Jeet Adani emphasized that India's IT revolution has established it as a global leader in digital services.
He remarked, "Yet, the benefits derived from productivity have largely been enjoyed elsewhere, not within our borders. The AI revolution presents India with a rare opportunity to alter this dynamic," he expressed to the audience.
Calling the Summit “a pivotal moment in history,” he noted that AI will fundamentally transform sovereignty.
"The crucial question for India is not whether we will embrace AI. It is: Will India import intelligence or will we create it? Will we merely consume productivity — or will we generate it? Will we integrate into foreign systems - or will we construct our own?" he remarked.
He outlined three key pillars of sovereignty that will characterize India’s AI century: Energy Sovereignty, Compute and Cloud Sovereignty, and Services Sovereignty.
"These concepts are not mere technical notions. They are the bedrock of modern nationalism," Jeet Adani asserted.
If a nation's energy infrastructure is vulnerable, so too are its intelligence frameworks. In the contemporary AI landscape, power and data grids are intertwined, he highlighted.
"Thus, India’s expansion in renewable energy — solar, wind, and storage — transcends climate strategy. It is a matter of strategic infrastructure policy. Energy security will equate to intelligence security. Sustainable energy will provide a competitive edge," Jeet Adani explained.
He further emphasized that AI should serve as a force multiplier for Indian citizens before it becomes a margin multiplier for others.
Earlier this week, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group and Jeet Adani's father, made a groundbreaking announcement in India's technological journey, stating that the Adani Group will invest $100 billion to construct a sovereign, green-energy-enabled AI infrastructure platform for the nation.
"This initiative is not merely an expansion of data centers. It will catalyze a 5-gigawatt, $250 billion integrated energy and compute ecosystem designed to anchor India’s Intelligence Revolution," he articulated.
By uniting renewable energy, grid resilience, and hyperscale computing into a cohesive framework, this commitment guarantees that India's AI future is not only powered but also secure, sovereign, and developed on a national scale," Jeet Adani concluded.
