Is UP Congress Chief Ajay Rai's Aide Connected to Varanasi Robberies?

Varanasi, June 6 (NationPress) In a crucial turn of events in Varanasi, authorities have detained Amit Pathak, identified as an aide to Ajay Rai, the President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, in relation to a series of thefts and robberies.

Pathak, who is 45 years old, was captured alongside an accomplice. Both have been linked to numerous criminal endeavors across different areas, with police describing Pathak as the gang's ringleader.

The police have filed charges against the suspects under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, which include extortion (Section 384), nighttime burglary (Section 457), robbery (Section 392), insult (Section 504), criminal intimidation (Section 506), and molestation of a woman (Section 354). The Varanasi Commissionerate Police are actively investigating and are in pursuit of additional members of this criminal syndicate.

This arrest has caused ripples through both political and law enforcement sectors, as investigations suggest the existence of a broader criminal enterprise. The police's apprehension of Pathak and his accomplice came after extensive surveillance and tracking. Amit Pathak and his accomplice were apprehended under Case No. 102/2025. The addition of molestation charges has intensified the seriousness of the case, prompting victims to begin coming forward with their testimonies.

The Commissionerate police have indicated that further investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on capturing additional gang members. “This is merely the beginning. We are confident that there are more individuals involved, and we will hold everyone accountable, regardless of their political or social standing,” stated a senior police official overseeing the case.

While the Congress has not yet released an official statement, the arrest of an individual closely associated with a prominent political figure is expected to raise significant concerns regarding the vetting process for personal staff and the potential abuse of influence.
