Bhopal, July 16 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for healthcare services, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal has unveiled a specialized pediatric After Completion of Therapy (ACT) clinic, as announced by officials.
This initiative is aimed at addressing the health needs of children diagnosed with cancer, ensuring they have a supportive environment throughout their recovery journey.
The new clinic was inaugurated within the pediatric ward.
AIIMS Bhopal's Executive Director, Ajay Singh, remarked, "Today, almost 80 percent of children diagnosed with cancer survive and can lead fulfilling lives when given timely and comprehensive treatment."
He highlighted that AIIMS Bhopal has already begun providing holistic cancer care for children, which includes precise diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgical interventions.
Numerous children who have successfully undergone treatment are now thriving, he noted.
However, Singh emphasized that recovery is just the beginning. Survivors may encounter long-term health issues related to growth, hormonal balance, cardiovascular health, neurological development, and emotional well-being.
"To effectively tackle these challenges, the newly established ACT clinic integrates a multidisciplinary team, which includes a pediatric oncologist, endocrinologist, cardiologist, neurodevelopment specialist, psycho-oncologist, nutritionist, physiotherapist, social worker, and educator," Singh elaborated.
While speaking to a gathering of medical professionals and students, Singh commended the entire medical team for their comprehensive support throughout both the treatment and follow-up stages.
From now on, both teams will operate under the auspices of the Department of Anatomy.
This collaborative approach aims to ensure that children not only survive cancer but also flourish afterward.
On this occasion, Singh also inaugurated a modern, well-equipped playroom within the pediatric ward, which has been supported by Cankids-Kidscan, an organization devoted to enhancing the care of childhood cancer patients.
This facility will serve as a therapeutic area for children undergoing cancer treatment and managing chronic illnesses, allowing them moments of joy amidst their medical challenges.
Emphasizing the importance of the playroom, Singh stated, "Healing transcends medicine. It encompasses the restoration of hope, strength, and happiness. Our ACT Clinic is a proactive step toward nurturing the long-term welfare of childhood cancer survivors. The playroom is our commitment to bringing smiles during some of their most challenging times. AIIMS Bhopal is dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and child-friendly healthcare."
