New Delhi, Nov 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, announced on Saturday that the government is actively pursuing measures to combat pollution. As part of this initiative, a program has been launched to distribute 10,000 electric heaters to the watchmen of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to discourage the burning of wood or coal during the winter months.

“Engagement from citizens and local communities is essential in our mission to improve air quality. Hence, we are distributing electric heaters to a significant number of RWAs today, aiming to reduce the necessity of bonfires in winter and effectively manage pollution generated by smoke,” she stated on X.

During her discussion with reporters, the Chief Minister remarked, “This initiative is another proactive measure by the Delhi government in the ongoing battle against pollution. We are launching this new program to distribute 10,000 heaters to RWAs, supported by CSR contributions, to minimize pollution from burning wood and coal.”

“Our goal is to ensure that no watchmen or residents in any locality resort to burning wood or coal, which exacerbates pollution. We aspire to raise awareness among all RWAs and encourage them to prevent such practices in their neighborhoods. By supplying electric heaters, we aim to support our watchmen and provide a cleaner alternative, contributing to pollution reduction throughout Delhi,” she mentioned at a gathering at Dilli Haat, Pitampura.

While addressing RWA representatives, CM Gupta expressed, “Open flames significantly increase pollution levels, whereas electric heaters offer a safe, clean, and practical substitute. This minor step can have a considerable impact on pollution control.”

She emphasized that the government is committed to pollution control with utmost seriousness, stating, “We are working tirelessly on all fronts, prioritizing pollution reduction.”

“Our efforts in managing waste are yielding results, with reduced garbage levels, ongoing cleanliness and tree plantation initiatives, and improved road water sprinkling and mechanical sweeping operations,” she noted.

Additionally, the government is enhancing the installation of smog towers and monitoring vehicles and industries contributing to pollution. “Controlling pollution in Delhi is our commitment, responsibility, and highest priority,” she asserted.

The Chief Minister also called for public involvement, stating, “Collective participation is the most effective strategy in our fight against pollution.”
