New Delhi, Nov 8 (NationPress) In a bid to combat air pollution, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta instructed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) on Saturday to locate slum residents relying on conventional fuels like wood and coal for cooking. The objective is to facilitate the transition to cooking gas connections through the Ujjwala Yojana.
According to the Chief Minister, the Delhi government aims to assist these families in abandoning environmentally damaging cooking fuels.
Chief Minister Gupta also mentioned that the BJP-led Delhi government is tackling pollution with urgency.
Teams of officials are actively assessing the streets, implementing strict actions against pollution sources, and employing effective strategies to eliminate pollution hotspots, she noted.
She stressed that pollution management extends beyond the industrial and transportation sectors; it is crucial to address domestic pollution as well.
The Chief Minister pointed out that smoke from stoves and fireplaces in slums not only contributes to environmental degradation but also significantly endangers the health of residents.
"Consequently, the government aims for every household to have access to clean energy sources, ensuring that no one resorts to traditional, polluting fuels," she stated.
Achieving a pollution-free Delhi is a primary focus for her administration, which is actively engaged in addressing this pressing issue.
Maintenance teams are on the ground, cleaning roads, sidewalks, and various thoroughfares to mitigate pollution causes, Gupta added, highlighting the deployment of senior officials from essential government departments, including the Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation and Flood Control Department, DUSIB, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), and other municipal bodies.
The Chief Minister stated that these officials have received directives to concentrate on the thorough cleanliness of designated zones, ensuring they do not leave until this objective is met.
She further noted that all Urban Local Bodies and related agencies have been ordered to mobilize necessary sanitation resources to guarantee complete cleanliness across the entire area.
Special efforts are being made to address the pollution hotspots in the city.
"Continuous mist spraying is being conducted in these hotspots, along with mechanical interventions to control dust. The roads and footpaths in proximity to these hotspots are undergoing repairs using cement and other materials to minimize dust," she added.
