Aizawl, April 11 (NationPress) A cutting-edge Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) has been established in Aizawl as part of the Smart City Mission. This facility aims to oversee a range of activities including crime monitoring, traffic violations, vehicular movements, disaster management, and more in the capital of Mizoram.
Officials have stated that due to its sophisticated technology, Aizawl's ICCC is now recognized as one of the top three centres across India.
During the visit to Aizawl Ven Buk – the ICCC located at Treasury Square, Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Home Minister K. Sapdanga, who also oversees Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, expressed their support.
Inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on April 1, 2023, the ICCC was set up with a total investment of Rs 87.18 crore.
According to an ICCC representative, the facility incurs a monthly operational cost of approximately Rs 7.8 lakh.
To facilitate public use, the centre charges a nominal fee of Rs 100. The Chief Minister praised the extensive CCTV network that now encompasses nearly every densely populated area of Aizawl, ensuring thorough surveillance and efficient record-keeping.
He noted that while the system focuses on monitoring, it plays a crucial role in upholding public safety and order. The Chief Minister stressed that extending this facility could benefit not just Aizawl but also the surrounding areas.
This system will also be invaluable in disaster-prone areas and during emergency responses.
He urged for optimal operations and collaboration with relevant departments to enhance the centre's effectiveness.
During a session at the Control Room, Home Minister K. Sapdanga emphasized the centre's real-time surveillance capabilities. He referenced a recent incident circulated on social media about “a stabbing involving youths with a gun,” which was confirmed as false through this facility.
Aizawl Smart City CEO C.C. Lalchhuangkima detailed the operations, revealing that 237 standard CCTV cameras and 39 Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras have been deployed across 76 key locations in Aizawl.
The PTZ cameras can zoom in for clear identification of individuals, and facial recognition technology has been implemented at five critical sites.
Additionally, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems have been installed to track traffic violations and vehicular movements. Large-screen Variable Message Displays (VMDs) have been set up at five locations for public information dissemination.
Free Wi-Fi services are available at 15 locations.
Lalchhuangkima mentioned that video footage is maintained for about 30 days, with important data archived while non-essential footage is permanently deleted. Since its inception, the system has identified nearly 600 cases.
A prominent company, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), recently contributed additional equipment to enhance the Aizawl Traffic Management system, including further CCTV infrastructure.
These new assets will be integrated into the ICCC network, the official noted.
