Lucknow, Nov 22 (NationPress) The national president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, has once again expressed strong concerns regarding the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Uttar Pradesh.
He has accused the BJP and certain administrative factions of exploiting this process to intentionally disenfranchise opposition voters.
During a fierce critique directed at both the BJP and the Election Commission, Akhilesh Yadav claimed on Saturday that a “significant conspiracy” is underway to remove approximately 50,000 votes from each assembly constituency, especially in areas where the Samajwadi Party had a strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He asserted that his party possesses “substantial evidence” demonstrating that some administrative officials are working alongside BJP leaders to pinpoint and eliminate opposition supporters from the electoral rolls.
Referring to a widely circulated audio clip of an SDM from Kannauj, he indicated that this evidence shows the tampering of voter lists is a “systematic issue, not an isolated case.”
Akhilesh Yadav contended that this alleged tactic is not limited to Uttar Pradesh alone, mentioning that similar trends are observable in other states, including West Bengal, and cited Bihar as an example, where he claimed around 6 million votes of the RJD and other opposition parties were eliminated during revisions of the voter list.
He further criticized the timing and implementation of the SIR process, noting that BLOs are not conducting door-to-door outreach and lack proper training.
Conducting SIR during the busy wedding and agricultural season, he argued, complicates proper verification and should consequently be postponed.
Akhilesh demanded that the SIR deadline be extended, stating, “As the BJP loses ground on public issues, it has resorted to new tactics to secure electoral victories.”
He also called for the Election Commission to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all political entities to guarantee transparency in the voter list revision process.
Warning that SP members are vigilant on the ground, Akhilesh Yadav declared they will not permit any “conspiracy to diminish votes” to prevail in any assembly constituency.
