Jammu, June 30 (NationPress) On Monday, security forces executed a comprehensive joint mock drill on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, marking the final phase of preparations for the highly anticipated Amarnath Yatra 2025.
This exercise aimed to bolster the safety and readiness of security personnel and local administration prior to the pilgrimage, which is set to commence on June 3.
During the drill, buses were dispatched under full security, evaluating the readiness and collaboration among various security units.
The simulation recreated emergency conditions like landslides and other natural calamities, emphasizing quick response, evacuation, and medical assistance for pilgrims who may be stranded.
The mock drill included rescuing vehicles in distress, administering immediate first aid, and ensuring rapid relief through coordinated efforts by disaster response and security teams.
Officials announced that the first group of pilgrims is scheduled to be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on June 2, with the Yatra beginning the following day through both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
Jammu Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya stated that the entire dry run was under close observation.
“The Divisional Commissioner, IG, and other senior officials are overseeing the comprehensive process of the drill. All preparations have been finalized, and tokens will be distributed at Saraswati Dham. We encourage the public to participate in large numbers; we will provide all required amenities, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone,” he mentioned during a press briefing.
According to Jammu South SDM Manu Hansa, ticket counters have been established at Saraswati Dham.
“Today, 1,000 tickets for both Pahalgam and Baltal routes will be released. Considering the weather, waterproof waiting areas have also been arranged for passengers. Children under 13 and seniors above 70 will not be permitted to attend this Yatra,” he conveyed to IANS.
On Sunday, a similar mock landslide drill was conducted collaboratively by the Indian Army, CRPF, J&K Police, and the Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force (JKSDRF) in Samroli and Toldi Nallah – crucial segments along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway.
These locations are vital transit points for pilgrims heading to the sacred shrine.
In addition, the CRPF has enhanced surveillance along the Yatra routes, deploying K-9 dog squads alongside patrolling teams and bolstering highway security, particularly in sensitive regions like the Udhampur sector.
