Has Chhattisgarh's Ambikapur Railway Station Been Transformed Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

Surguja (Chhattisgarh), May 21 (NationPress) Excitement is palpable in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to inaugurate the newly revitalized Ambikapur Railway Station on May 22, via video conferencing.

This project, executed under the innovative Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), significantly enhances the region’s connectivity and infrastructure.

With a budget of Rs 6.29 crore, the Ambikapur Railway Station has undergone a stunning transformation. The upgrade includes modern amenities, aesthetic improvements, and enhanced passenger services, establishing the station as a beacon of progress.

For locals, this is more than just a renovation—it symbolizes the central government’s dedication to regional growth.

IANS spoke with several residents of Surguja district, who shared their enthusiasm and joy.

Madhusudan Shukla, a local resident, expressed his happiness: “Since PM Modi’s administration took charge, railway stations nationwide have experienced ongoing development. Ambikapur is no exception. Thanks to substantial funding authorized by the Prime Minister, the station has been fully modernized. The people of Surguja are genuinely thrilled to witness such tangible progress.”

Deepak Yadav, another local, remarked: “Everyone in Surguja feels excited and proud. Our region has long lacked sufficient rail services. However, under PM Modi’s leadership, we have seen evident improvements in the railway sector. This station now epitomizes a new era of connectivity and advancement.”

Sanju, a long-term resident of Ambikapur, shared similar feelings: “This is a proud moment for us. Our station has been beautified and given a modern identity. Five stations in Chhattisgarh were chosen under this scheme, and Ambikapur is one of them. With the Tricolour, greenery, contemporary facilities, and a refreshed appearance, the station is now easily recognizable. We extend our gratitude to Modi ji and the Central Government for prioritizing our city’s emotional and infrastructural needs.”

Bharat Singh Sisodia, the BJP District President of Surguja, underscored the broader implications: “Ambikapur is not just another town—it’s a vital tourist destination in Chhattisgarh. The station has been designed with a thematic approach that reflects this identity. Enhanced beautification, contemporary amenities, digital systems, and gardens have been incorporated. We have long advocated for railway expansion in Ambikapur, and witnessing the station’s transformation under our beloved Prime Minister is immensely gratifying. We also hope that Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will either participate in the virtual inauguration or visit soon.”

On May 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the revamped station via video conferencing, alongside 102 other renovated railway stations across 18 states and Union Territories.

The Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, launched in 2021 by the central government, aims to redevelop over 1,300 railway stations throughout the nation. The scheme’s vision transcends mere cosmetic improvements; it focuses on constructing safe, inclusive, and tech-enabled stations that meet the diverse needs of India’s expanding railway user base.

From improved entry and exit points to modernized waiting areas and restrooms, the stations included in this scheme are being redesigned with user convenience in mind. Facilities like escalators, lifts, and complimentary Wi-Fi are being installed as necessary. Enhanced signage and digital information systems will facilitate easier navigation for passengers. Moreover, select stations will feature executive lounges and meeting areas for business travelers.

To support local culture and commerce, the initiative also endorses the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, which allocates stalls for showcasing and selling region-specific handicrafts and produce. Landscaping, green spaces, and art installations further promote a more eco-friendly and culturally resonant station atmosphere.
