Amit Shah Criticizes Congress in Rajya Sabha for Inaction on Uniform Civil Code in Secular Nation

New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) Launching a sharp criticism against the Congress for its inability to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) throughout the nation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah charged the Congress with appeasement politics and demanded to know if there should be a universal law for all religions in a secular nation.
Wrapping up the debate in the Rajya Sabha regarding the 75th anniversary of the Constitution's adoption, the Union Home Minister also took aim at Congress concerning their claims about Electronic Voting Machines (EVM), remarking that some individuals who raised concerns about the election outcomes in Maharashtra were celebrating in Jharkhand, where the JMM-led INDIA coalition emerged victorious in the Assembly polls.
He questioned why the UCC has not yet been enacted.
"Why hasn't the UCC been implemented? It failed to materialize because after the Constituent Assembly concluded and elections were held, our first Prime Minister, Nehruji, introduced Muslim Personal Law instead of the UCC. I urge the Congress party in this House to consider whether there should be a common law for all religions in a secular state. Why do they endorse Muslim Personal Law? This political maneuvering is unparalleled... They initiated appeasement by introducing Muslim Personal Law... The UCC cannot be brought forth as they cannot transcend the politics of appeasement. In Uttarakhand, our (BJP) government has successfully implemented the Uniform Civil Code in the state," he stated.
Home Minister Shah also criticized Congress regarding several constitutional amendments made during their governance.
"The 39th Amendment of the Constitution surpassed all limits. August 10, 1975, remains a dark day. Indira Gandhi's elections were invalidated by the Allahabad High Court. After their defeat, they wander around blaming EVMs. They claim EVMs are responsible for their losses... They only blame the EVMs when they lose. Two Assembly election results were announced simultaneously. Maharashtra decisively defeated the opposition... for disrespecting the mandate. So, EVMs are flawed in Maharashtra, but when they won in Jharkhand, they adorned themselves and rushed to take the oath. The public is observing, and they should feel ashamed. How can it be that EVMs function correctly in one place and not in another?" he questioned.
The Union Home Minister pointed out that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had invited the public to verify if EVMs could be hacked, but no one showed up.
"The ECI kept the EVM accessible for public scrutiny from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. over three days for anyone to demonstrate hacking feasibility. No one participated. The Supreme Court has dismissed petitions regarding EVMs 24 times," he noted.
Amit Shah remarked that Indira Gandhi's election was annulled by the Allahabad High Court and criticized some constitutional amendments enacted during her administration.
"She prohibited a judicial inquiry into a Prime Minister's actions through an amendment... I implore my Communist colleagues to reflect on whom they are aligning with," Home Minister Shah stated.
"The 42nd Amendment to the Constitution was instituted during Indira Gandhi's premiership... The terms of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were extended to six years. They enacted this to avoid losing if elections occurred at the appropriate time... Congress members began to be absent as they could not mount opposition. Consequently, an amendment was made eliminating the need for a quorum in both Houses. They also extended the period of President's rule by six months," Shah added.
The discussions regarding the 75 years of the Constitution commenced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday and continued for two days. The Lok Sabha held its discussions the previous week.
