Out of this allocation, ₹63,976.77 crore has already been approved for states and Union Territories (UTs), with ₹11,756.13 crore disbursed thus far, stated Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

Overall, when combined with the states' contributions, the total expenditure reported by states and UTs stands at ₹17,089 crore, with works valued at ₹23,016.30 crore completed, the minister added.
The projected total outlay for AMRUT 2.0 is ₹2,99,000 crore, which includes central assistance of ₹76,760 crore over five years.
Launched on October 1, 2021, the AMRUT 2.0 scheme aims to achieve universal coverage in sewerage and septage management across 500 AMRUT cities. Additional goals include the rejuvenation of water bodies, enhancement of green spaces and parks, as well as the establishment of a technology sub-mission to utilize cutting-edge technologies in water management.
According to reports from states and UTs on the AMRUT 2.0 portal (as of November 15, 2024), tenders have been issued for 5,886 projects totaling ₹1,15,872.91 crore, with contracts awarded for 4,916 projects worth ₹85,114.01 crore.
The remaining projects are at various implementation stages, the minister noted. The projects initiated under this scheme are substantial infrastructure undertakings with lengthy timelines. To evaluate and oversee progress within the states and UTs, independent review and monitoring agencies (IRMAs) have been established. Additionally, a dedicated AMRUT 2.0 online portal is available for tracking project progress and monitoring efforts submitted by states and UTs.
