Amaravati, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has initiated an inquiry following the heartbreaking demise of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy at a state-run childcare facility in Anantapur. This incident coincided with 85 female students falling ill at a residential institution located in Parvathipuram Manyam district.
In discussions with G. Sandhya Rani, the Minister for Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into these distressing events.
CM Naidu further requested updates regarding the health situation of the students who became unwell at the girls' residential school in Kurupam. He sought information on the measures being implemented by the authorities.
Following the Chief Minister's orders, Minister Sandhya Rani visited the students receiving medical care at KGH Hospital in Visakhapatnam. She assured the Chief Minister that the District Collector and senior officials from the Tribal Welfare Department were en route to Parvathipuram Hospital to assess the health status of the patients.
Additionally, CM Naidu discussed the tragic event involving the child's death at the Anantapur childcare centre, which occurred on October 2.
Allegations of staff conflicts leading to neglect during feeding were reported, which, unfortunately, resulted in the child's death. It has also been reported that the body was interred hurriedly without notifying senior officials.
A mother from Kalyandurg had surrendered her baby to the Women and Child Welfare Department on September 30 due to financial hardships that hindered her ability to care for him. The infant, who was born underweight, was receiving treatment for various health issues.
On Dasara (October 2), the child reportedly experienced diarrhoea and subsequently passed away. The officials at Shishu Gruha informed the district collector and the ICDS Project Officer about the death via WhatsApp and conducted the final rites the following morning.
Conflicts between the manager and the ayahs at Shishu Gruha have surfaced as they each blame the other for the tragic incident. In response, the ICDS project officer has issued memos to both parties involved.
In light of these events, District Collector O. Anand has mandated an investigation, establishing a three-member committee consisting of the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. EB Devi, ICDS Project Director M. Nagamani, and the Pediatric HOD from Government General Hospital.
The committee has been charged with submitting a detailed report. The Collector assured that appropriate actions would follow based on the findings.
