Andhra Pradesh CM Denounces Attack on Media Office by YSRCP Members
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, April 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday regarding the attempted assault by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) members on a Telugu media outlet's office located in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister labeled this incident as a blatant attack on press freedom.
He asserted that the aggression was provoked by the media outlet's inquiries into the stance of former Chief Minister and YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy concerning Amaravati.
In his statement, Naidu criticized the YSRCP for purportedly exploiting its media resources while engaging in unfounded accusations and derogatory language against independent media entities.
He observed that, despite enduring harassment and conspiratorial tactics during the prior five years of YSRCP governance, the regional media station managed to operate without trepidation.
The presence of current MLAs and former Ministers, along with groups targeting a media office, was noted by Naidu as indicative of the YSRCP's chaotic culture.
He commended the Managing Director of the regional media outlet, Vemuri Radhakrishna, for fearlessly managing the newspaper and channel over decades, despite facing legal challenges, assaults, and ongoing pressures.
Naidu firmly stated that intimidation attempts against the media through violence, protests, and threats have no place in a democratic society, deeming such political maneuvers as outdated.
Furthermore, he claimed that the public, particularly women, remember the behavior of YSRCP leaders, including their treatment of women and their own family members during their time in power.
The Chief Minister accused the YSRCP of engaging in diversionary tactics, asserting that rather than addressing the editorial challenges concerning alleged conspiracies against Amaravati, the party opted for violence and protests.
On Monday, the YSRCP filed a complaint with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting against the media outlet for purportedly disseminating defamatory and derogatory remarks.
In a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chanchal Kumar, YSRCP MLC and general secretary Lella Appireddy requested swift action against the media outlet, its anchor, editor, and management for allegedly airing unethical and misleading content across its electronic and digital platforms.
The MLC referenced allegedly offensive and defamatory language used by the news anchor while discussing YSRCP members and supporters.
The YSRCP quoted the anchor as stating that party supporters would "blindly accept" anything articulated by Jagan Mohan Reddy, and described the language as abusive and derogatory.
