Amaravati, June 9 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has voiced serious apprehension about what he describes as a disturbing collapse of democracy and the rule of law in Andhra Pradesh, asserting that the state has become a representation of anarchy under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu.
The president of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) accused authorities of silencing democratic voices, intellectuals, and journalists through intimidation and the outright abuse of power.
In a post shared on X, he vehemently criticized the arrest of 70-year-old senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, labeling it a manifestation of political revenge. He raised concerns about the logic behind arresting a moderator for comments he did not make, merely for facilitating a debate.
“In any discussion, varying opinions are to be expected. Punishing an anchor for statements made by guests is not just, it’s perilous,” he stated.
He charged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with trying to distract the public from his one-year record of failures, corruption, and broken electoral promises by targeting media outlets like 'Sakshi' and suppressing dissenting opinions.
This incident is not the first instance of vindictive behavior against Kommineni; he previously lost his job and faced censorship of his programs between 2014 and 2019 for not endorsing the TDP’s agenda. Jagan reminded Naidu that power is fleeting.
“You were allocated five years — one year has already elapsed. The day will come when the public will demand accountability for your abuses and injustices,” he cautioned. “What you plant today, you will harvest tomorrow — and then some,” he added.
Srinivasa Rao, who anchors for 'Sakshi TV', was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly making derogatory comments about women from the state capital, Amaravati, during a show on the channel owned by Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The police detained the senior journalist at his residence in Hyderabad and transported him to Guntur district, where authorities initiated a case against him, analyst V.V. Krishnam Raju, and the management of 'Sakshi TV'.
The police action followed a complaint lodged by TDP leaders who claimed that participants in the show labeled Amaravati as the 'capital of prostitutes'.
CM Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have condemned these remarks, promising that those responsible will face consequences.
