Vijayawada, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, S. Abdul Nazeer, along with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, commemorated the 156th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and the 121st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on Thursday.
During a ceremony at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan, Governor Nazeer honored the two iconic leaders by laying flowers at their portraits.
The Governor remarked that Mahatma Gandhi's principles of truth, non-violence, simplicity, and selfless service remain relevant across generations. He stated, "Gandhiji's vision of peace, unity, and the upliftment of the underprivileged continues to guide our nation. His enduring principles inspire us to foster a society grounded in justice, equality, and fraternity, contributing to our nation's advancement," stated Abdul Nazeer in his address.
He also paid homage to the late Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, emphasizing Shastri's legacy as a distinguished statesman and a paragon of simplicity, integrity, and national commitment.
"Shastri ji's rallying cry of 'Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan' still resonates with us and motivates future generations. His pivotal role in nation-building and patriotism will always be cherished," he added.
Chief Minister Naidu also expressed his respects to Mahatma Gandhi, stating, "On this momentous occasion marking the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader who was pivotal in our struggle for independence, I extend my profound tribute. Gandhi ji, a monumental figure who united the Indian populace and engaged in a non-violent battle against British rule to secure our freedom, serves as an ideal for our youth. Only by adhering to his teachings can we realize the vision of a new India we aspire to create," he conveyed in a post on 'X'.
He further acknowledged Lal Bahadur Shastri, noting that Shastri infused the nation with renewed zeal through his slogan, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.
Naidu remarked that Shastri's relentless efforts for India's independence and his spirit of sacrifice should serve as an inspiration for young people today.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan emphasized that the essence of Mahatma Gandhi's teachings should be conveyed to future generations. "The concepts of truth and non-violence championed by Mahatma Gandhiji provide immense strength to the eternal essence of humanity. He embodied these principles in his life and showcased their potency. On this significant occasion marking his birth anniversary, I offer my heartfelt tribute. It is imperative that Gandhiji's teachings are made known to future generations, and we must study the path he traversed during the freedom struggle," stated the Jana Sena leader.
Pawan Kalyan also encouraged everyone to support the khadi movement as pushed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
