Andhra Pradesh MPTC, ZPTC polls 2026: Over 50,815 nominations found valid ahead of November 3 vote
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
More than 50,815 nominations have been cleared as valid for the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections in Andhra Pradesh, with polling scheduled for 3 November. The State Election Commission (SEC) confirmed the figures following the completion of nomination scrutiny, setting the stage for a high-stakes local-body contest across the state.
Breakdown of Valid Nominations
Of the total valid nominations, 46,045 are for 9,829 MPTCs, while 4,770 nominations have been cleared for 659 ZPTCs. The numbers reflect intense political interest at the grassroots level, with candidates from major parties and independents all in the fray.
For MPTC seats, the ruling alliance's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leads with 19,760 nominations, followed by its ally Jana Sena Party (JSP) with 4,330 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 1,049. The principal opposition, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has fielded 17,726 candidates for MPTC seats.
For ZPTC constituencies, TDP has filed 1,693 nominations, while JSP and BJP have filed 587 and 227 nominations respectively. YSRCP has put up 1,445 candidates for ZPTC seats.
NDA Seat-Sharing Talks Still Ongoing
Notably, the three partners within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) — TDP, JSP, and BJP — are yet to arrive at a formal seat-sharing arrangement for these elections. Multiple aspirants from all three parties have filed nominations independently, and party leaderships are reportedly working toward a last-minute understanding to mount a united campaign against the YSRCP.
This internal jostling within the NDA reflects a recurring challenge for coalition partners when translating parliamentary-level alliances into coordinated local-body strategies.
Key Election Dates to Watch
Appeals against rejected nominations were filed on 25 October before the concerned Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) for MPTC candidates and before the District Collector for ZPTC candidates, with appellate authorities directed to dispose of appeals by 26 October.
27 October is the last date for withdrawal of candidatures, and a final list of contesting candidates will be published on the same day. Polling will be conducted on 3 November, with repolling, if required, on 4 November. Vote counting is scheduled for 5 November.
Scale of the Election
Approximately 2.81 crore voters are eligible to participate in elections to be held across 28 Zilla Praja Parishads. Out of a total of 663 ZPTCs, polling will be conducted for 659. Similarly, of the state's 9,858 MPTCs, elections will be held in 9,829 constituencies.
With the final candidate list due on 27 October, all eyes will be on whether the NDA manages to forge a cohesive seat-sharing pact before the withdrawal deadline.
