Andhra Pradesh draws ₹22 lakh crore investment in 28 months: CM Naidu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Andhra Pradesh has attracted investments totalling ₹22 lakh crore over the past 28 months, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced on Thursday, 8 October 2026, at the CII Partnership Summit 2026 curtain-raiser event in New Delhi. The disclosure, made in the presence of Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, underscores Andhra Pradesh's accelerating pitch to become India's top investment destination under the state's 'Build AP' initiative.
Key Investment Highlights
Chief Minister Naidu told assembled industrialists that agreements worth ₹13.50 lakh crore were signed during last year's partnership summit alone, stressing that the state's focus has shifted from signing Memoranda of Understanding to converting them into ground-level operations. He cited global heavyweights ArcelorMittal and Google as companies already moving to set up facilities in the state.
Naidu also disclosed that an industrial incentives escrow account — announced earlier — will be formally launched on 12–13 November. In a significant ease-of-doing-business measure, he confirmed that the NALA Act, which had long been cited as a structural hurdle to land-related investments, has been repealed. A 'Speed of Doing Business' framework is additionally being rolled out to accelerate approvals across agriculture, industry, and services.
Energy, Infrastructure and Water Projects
On the energy front, Naidu revealed that agreements for generating 110 gigawatts of power have already been signed as part of a broader 500-gigawatt green energy target, with plans to build a dedicated green energy transmission corridor. He also outlined a transformative inter-river linking proposal connecting the Godavari, Krishna, Penna, Tungabhadra, and Cauvery rivers, which he said would address water scarcity across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
On the maritime side, Naidu announced that Mazagon Dockyard Limited has agreed to set up a shipbuilding centre at Dugarajapatnam, while Goa Shipyard will establish a shipbuilding facility at Machilipatnam. He also flagged the state's ambition to transform Rayalaseema into a global horticulture hub and position Andhra Pradesh as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
Centre's Support and Technology Push
Union Minister Goyal described Andhra Pradesh as a 'Sunrise State' and praised Naidu — whom he called a 'visionary leader' — for adopting technology as early as 1998. He confirmed that a Google data centre is being set up in Visakhapatnam and a Quantum Computing Valley is planned for Amaravati. Goyal emphasised that the Centre and states are working as 'Team India', with the Union government extending full backing for the state's infrastructure projects, including the Polavaram project and the construction of the new Amaravati capital.
Chief Minister Naidu attributed a significant revenue uptick to the deployment of AI-based technology in GST tax collection. He also requested the Central government to build an international-standard convention centre to host future CII partnership summits.
Ahead of the Visakhapatnam Summit
CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee and CII President R. Mukundan participated in the curtain-raiser. Both Union Minister Goyal and Chief Minister Naidu appealed to industrialists to attend the upcoming investment summit in Visakhapatnam and explore on-ground opportunities in the state. With the escrow account launch and several large-ticket projects in the pipeline, all eyes will now be on whether Andhra Pradesh's conversion rate from intent to investment holds up.
