Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) Congress Lok Sabha MP Tariq Anwar criticized veteran party leader Kamal Nath on Friday over his assertion that there is "no shortage of gas or LPG." Anwar deemed this statement as being out of touch with the realities faced by everyday citizens, reflecting a profound misunderstanding of their struggles.
In an interview with IANS, Anwar described such claims as "ridiculous" and encouraged those making them to experience the situation directly.
"Who can clarify this to him (Kamal Nath)? When someone speaks or argues in this manner, it is indeed laughable," the Congress Lok Sabha MP remarked.
He emphasized that the true state of affairs can only be grasped by witnessing the conditions firsthand.
"This is something that must be seen and felt. Just visit a gas agency, and you will realize whether a gas crisis exists or not," Anwar conveyed.
Pointing to the human consequences of the alleged shortage, Anwar stated that ordinary citizens are among the most affected.
"Women are in tears, stating they are unable to provide timely meals for their children. The children are heading to school on empty stomachs," he noted.
Anwar further asserted that the fuel crisis encompasses both domestic and commercial gas supplies, with soaring prices making it unaffordable for many.
"Whether it’s commercial or domestic gas, we are currently facing a severe crisis. Migrant workers are returning home due to the gas shortage, fearing that this issue will worsen," the Congress Lok Sabha MP explained.
He pointed out that for numerous low-income families, the price of cooking gas cylinders has become untenable.
"The expense of gas exceeds their earnings, rendering it unmanageable, which is why many are returning to their villages," Anwar remarked.
He warned against making broad statements without assessing the situation on the ground, asserting that such comments undermine the genuine experiences of citizens.
"Therefore, if someone makes such assertions without comprehending the ground reality, it is misguided," Anwar concluded.
In a separate note, Congress leader Anand Sharma praised India's diplomatic response to the West Asia crisis. Congress General Secretary (Organisation) and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh remarked that differing opinions within the party highlight its democratic essence.
"This exemplifies that in our nation, the only truly democratic party is the Indian National Congress," Ramesh asserted.
Reiterating Kamal Nath's statement about the absence of a gas or LPG shortage, the Congress Rajya Sabha MP stated, "Another indication is that the only genuine democratic party is the Indian National Congress."
These comments arise amidst noticeable divergences in perspectives among senior Congress leaders regarding significant issues, even as the party continues to underscore its internal democratic practices.
