Amaravati, March 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has instructed government officials to compile detailed assessments within two days concerning the agricultural losses inflicted across the state due to severe winds, unexpected rainfall, and thunderstorms.
During a video conference held from his camp office, the Chief Minister engaged with district collectors and senior officials.
Officials informed Chief Minister Naidu that agricultural damage has been reported in 42 mandals spanning 12 districts.
Specifically, the maize crop sustained damage across 4,840 hectares, while paddy was affected on 1,534 hectares, and black gram on 310 hectares, leading to an estimated financial loss of Rs 40 crore.
Furthermore, it was reported that horticultural crops were also affected across 1,301 hectares in 48 mandals covering nine districts.
Crops such as banana, papaya, chili, various vegetables, mango, orange, and lemon were harmed, with damages valued at Rs 23 crore.
In total, officials have estimated the cumulative loss for all affected crops to be Rs 63 crore.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravati has reported that widespread rain is expected until March 22, followed by isolated showers thereafter.
Thunderstorms, along with lightning and strong winds reaching 60 km per hour, are anticipated in regions of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), has urged farmers to take necessary precautions.
In a separate meeting, Chief Minister Naidu reviewed the status of the LPG supply.
He warned that prolonged tensions among Iran, Israel, and the United States could disrupt the global LPG supply chain, emphasizing the need to establish a robust system within the state to manage any potential crisis effectively.
He directed officials to guarantee uninterrupted LPG gas cylinder supplies across all areas, with special emphasis on rural and tribal regions, educational institutions, temples, Anna canteens, and Anganwadis.
Additionally, he recommended exploring alternative energy sources like induction stoves and PNG.
Naidu also asked officials to engage with the Central government to ensure there are no shortages of fertilizers, petrol, or diesel.
