Has Gross Enrollment Under Atal Pension Yojana Exceeded 8.45 Crore by November?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) The total enrollment under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has now reached 8,45,17,419 as of November 30, 2025, as reported to Parliament on Monday.
This initiative is designed to establish a universal social security framework for all citizens, particularly targeting the economically disadvantaged, underprivileged, and those working in the unorganized sector. The APY provides a flexible minimum pension ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 monthly, as stated by the Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, during a Lok Sabha session.
Currently, the monthly subscription fees vary between Rs 42 and Rs 1,454, depending on the age at which one joins and the pension amount selected. An increase in the pension amount will likely lead to a substantial rise in subscription fees, potentially adding more financial pressure on subscribers.
The numbers indicate that the APY is successfully reaching the most impoverished segments of society.
The minister also mentioned that the decision has been made to maintain the existing terms of the scheme without any increase in the pension and, consequently, the subscription fees.
Launched in 2015, the APY aims to foster a universal social security system for all Indians. It is accessible to all Indian citizens aged between 18 and 40 years who possess a savings account in a bank or post office. Under this scheme, subscribers will receive pension benefits when they reach the age of 60.
As of October 31, the total female enrollment under APY stood at 4,04,41,135, accounting for 48% of the total enrollments. In Bihar, female enrollment was recorded at 42,07,233, representing 57% of the state’s total enrollments.
The government, along with the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), has implemented various measures to enhance awareness and participation in the APY across the nation, including in rural and remote regions of Bihar.
