Defence spokesman Lt Col Mahendra Rawat highlighted that this operation is part of ongoing efforts along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2). The Army’s Red Shield Division spearheaded coordinated area domination patrols in the Jalenbung Hills and Thoyee Heights, aiming to uphold security and thwart the reconstruction of hostile infrastructure.
The mission involved two joint columns comprising personnel from the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces, and Manipur Police, executing operations on both sides of the National Highway simultaneously.
In Jalenbung Hills, a thorough sweep led to the identification and destruction of multiple bunkers that had been previously dismantled but were rebuilt. According to the spokesman, a total of five such bunkers were eliminated in this area.
Concurrently, in Thoyee Heights, several bunkers along the Mahadev Hills and adjacent regions were located. Another five bunkers, which had been repaired after initial dismantling, were also destroyed during the operation.
Lt Col Rawat confirmed that, in total, ten illegally constructed bunkers were eradicated in this coordinated effort. He emphasized that this operation underscores the unwavering commitment of security forces to prevent the re-emergence of hostile firing positions, while fostering peace and stability in the region through persistent endeavors.
Additionally, a statement from Manipur Police indicated that search operations and area domination activities are being carried out in vulnerable and fringe areas across multiple districts.
Authorities have facilitated the movement of 116 vehicles carrying essential supplies along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Stringent security protocols have been established at all vulnerable points, and security convoys are ensuring safe and uninterrupted passage along sensitive stretches.
The statement further mentioned the establishment of 113 checkpoints across various districts in both hill and valley regions. During enforcement actions, 45 individuals were detained for breaching curfew regulations.
In a separate update, a senior official confirmed the suspension of Havildar Elangbam Surjit Singh, who was arrested on April 13 in Thoubal district for alleged connections with the Kangleipak Communist Party militant group.
Manipur Police reiterated its steadfast commitment to uphold discipline and integrity within its ranks, asserting that strict measures will be enforced against any personnel found guilty of misconduct or indiscipline.
