Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Imphal, April 12 (NationPress) On Sunday, security forces continued their coordinated search operations for the third straight day in response to the tragic killing of a BSF constable in Manipur's Ukhrul district.
These ongoing efforts resulted in the demolition of 21 illegally constructed bunkers within the district, according to officials.
A police representative in Imphal noted that both Central and state security forces have ramped up search efforts throughout Ukhrul and neighboring districts to capture the militants responsible for the death of Border Security Force (BSF) constable Mithun Mandal. He was attacked while fulfilling his Road Opening Party (ROP) duty on Friday, alongside other BSF personnel, in the violence-prone district.
Following a ceremonial tribute, the remains of the slain BSF constable were transported to his home in West Bengal on Saturday.
The official further reported that security forces dismantled 14 bunkers in Sikibung village and an additional seven in Mongkot Chepu village, under the jurisdiction of Litan Police Station in the hilly Ukhrul district. These bunkers had been illicitly established by militant groups to orchestrate attacks against both security personnel and civilians.
In a distinct operation, security forces seized arms and explosives from the tri-junction areas of Maojang, Libung, Gomnom, and T Khonunjang in Tengnoupal district, which shares a border with Myanmar. The confiscated items included two 9mm pistols with magazines, 13 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), combat uniforms, jungle shoes, and a backpack. All 13 IEDs were safely neutralized on-site by the security forces.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police apprehended two suspects in the Vengnuam Singngat area of Churachandpur district, recovering 45 soap cases filled with brown sugar, a Maruti Gypsy vehicle, two mobile phones, and two bags from them.
Security forces, consisting of both Central and state units, persist in their extensive operations against militant activities. Search operations and area control measures are underway in various districts, particularly in mixed-population and vulnerable areas.
To enhance monitoring and curb the movements of unlawful entities, a total of 109 checkpoints have been established across the valley and hill districts of the state.
Security personnel are also providing escorts for vehicles, including trucks carrying essential goods, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
Stringent security measures and convoy protections are enforced along critical routes to guarantee safe traffic movement.
The Manipur Police have advised the public to avoid falling prey to rumors and to exercise caution regarding misleading videos circulating on social media. "The authenticity of any shared videos or audio should be confirmed with the Central Control Room. Disseminating unverified or misleading content online may result in legal consequences," the police cautioned.
