Tragic Loss: BSF Constable Killed in Militants' Attack in Ukhrul

Imphal, April 10 (NationPress) A constable of the Border Security Force was tragically martyred on Friday due to suspected militant gunfire while performing patrol duties in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, as reported by officials.
According to police reports, Constable Mithun Mandal, hailing from Bhagjan Tola village in West Bengal, sustained severe injuries from unprovoked shooting by suspected militants in the Litan area of Ukhrul.
He was immediately transferred to a medical facility in Imphal but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
In response, security forces have initiated search operations and area control measures to locate the perpetrators of this attack. An official statement remarked, “Manipur Police pays tribute to BSF jawan Mithun Mandal.”
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh expressed strong condemnation of the incident and extended condolences to the family of the constable.
In a statement on social media, he indicated that Constable Mandal from the 170 Battalion, A Company, was hit by a bullet from an unidentified direction while on patrol at Mongkot Chepu in Ukhrul.
Despite the dedicated efforts of medical staff, the soldier unfortunately passed away at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.
The Chief Minister praised Mandal as a courageous soldier who devoted himself to serving the nation with honor and commitment.
“His ultimate sacrifice while on duty will always be honored and remembered. I offer my deepest sympathies to his grieving family and friends. May the Almighty provide them with the fortitude to cope with this immense loss,” he stated.
He further added that the state government stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains focused on maintaining peace, security, and justice in Manipur.
