Imphal, May 12 (NationPress) The government of Manipur declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the relatives of Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Deepak Chingakham, who tragically lost his life due to cross-border firing by Pakistan in the R.S. Pura sector of Jammu, as reported by officials.
According to a statement from Raj Bhavan, during the recent skirmish at the India-Pakistan border, constable (General Duty) Deepak Chingakham (25) of the 7th Battalion of the BSF, sacrificed his life following a drone attack that originated from Pakistan targeting the Kharkhola Border Outpost on May 10.
Hailing from Imphal East district in Manipur, Constable Chingakham was known for his dedication and valiant service to the nation. His untimely demise has plunged the entire state and the nation into mourning, as noted in the statement.
A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled to take place at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal on Tuesday, where state officials, including Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, will honor the fallen hero.
The state administration has also sanctioned an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the martyr's family under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) scheme, which supports martyrs and their families.
A police source in Manipur revealed that on May 10, Constable Chingakham suffered severe injuries during cross-border firing by Pakistan along the international boundary in the R.S. Pura region of Jammu. He succumbed to his injuries on May 11.
After the wreath-laying ceremony at Imphal Airport, the martyr's remains will be transported to his native place in Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai in Imphal East, where he will be given a dignified farewell with full honors.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed profound sorrow over the loss. In a post on social media, he stated, “I am deeply saddened by the martyrdom of BSF Braveheart Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham, who sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing from Pakistan in the R.S. Pura sector and laid down his life in the line of duty.”
“He was a proud son of Manipur, and as a Manipuri-Meitei, his courage and commitment to the nation epitomizes the unwavering dedication of our people to serve and protect.
