Imphal, April 11 (NationPress) A heartfelt tribute was paid to BSF Constable Mithun Mandal, who tragically lost his life due to suspected militant gunfire while on patrol in Manipur's Ukhrul district. His remains were transported to his family home in West Bengal on Saturday.

A representative from the BSF reported that Mandal suffered a gunshot wound to his left shoulder during his duties with the Road Opening Party (ROP) amidst a clash involving Tangkhul Naga and Kuki groups at Mongkot Chepu village in Ukhrul district.

He was promptly rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries, being declared dead by the attending physicians late on Friday night.

“His extraordinary bravery, commitment, and sense of duty are a testament to the finest traditions of the BSF,” the spokesperson noted.

A ceremonial wreath-laying event, complete with full military honors, was conducted on Saturday at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal to honor the fallen hero.

Organized by the Sector Headquarters BSF Manipur, the ceremony saw attendance from approximately 200 personnel, including high-ranking officials and fellow jawans.

Among those who paid their respects were Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, who all offered floral tributes.

The force rendered its final salute with full military honors.

Following the ceremony, Mandal's remains were sent back to his ancestral home in Bhagjan Tola village, West Bengal.

The BSF expressed its solidarity with the grieving family during this challenging time, reaffirming its dedication to peace and security in the area. “Mithun Mandal’s sacrifice will be honored and cherished,” an official statement read.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh condemned the attack and extended his condolences to the constable's family.

In a message on X, the Chief Minister articulated, “The state stands in profound respect and gratitude for his ultimate sacrifice in national service. Such acts of bravery uphold our nation's sovereignty and inspire future generations. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Salute to the martyr.”
