Lt Gen Mohit Seth reviews LoC operational preparedness in Poonch, J&K
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Lieutenant General Mohit Seth, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps headquartered at Nagrota, on Saturday, 3 October 2026, visited forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Krishna Ghati Sectors of Jammu & Kashmir to assess the operational readiness of the formation. The visit came days after Lt Gen Seth assumed command of the XVI Corps.
What the Corps Commander Reviewed
During the visit, Lt Gen Seth was briefed on the prevailing security environment, counter-infiltration measures, surveillance architecture, and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness. He was accompanied by the GOC of the Ace of Spades Division.
The Corps Commander commended troops for their 'unwavering commitment and operational excellence' and directed all ranks to maintain the highest standards of vigilance, readiness, and responsiveness along the sensitive border belt.
New Command, Early Signal
Lt Gen Seth took over command of the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps on Thursday from Lieutenant General P K Mishra. His early LoC visit is widely read as a signal of intent — an assertion of hands-on operational oversight at a time when the Poonch sector has remained sensitive to infiltration attempts.
On assuming command, he exhorted all ranks to uphold the highest standards of operational readiness, professional excellence, and team spirit, while continuing to foster peace, security, and stability in the region.
About Lt Gen Mohit Seth
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the National Defence College, New Delhi, Lt Gen Seth was commissioned into the Third Battalion of the Madras Regiment in 1991. He previously served as Commandant of the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan and commanded Counter-Insurgency Force Kilo, the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) formation responsible for anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir.
About the White Knight Corps
The XVI Corps, or the White Knight Corps, is one of the Indian Army's frontline formations, raised on 1 June 1972 with Lieutenant General J F R Jacob as its first GOC. It maintains its headquarters at Nagrota Cantonment in Jammu district. In 2005, the IX Corps was carved out of its southern sector, absorbing two of its divisions.
The Corps is responsible for guarding a critical stretch of the LoC, and reviews of its forward posts — particularly after a change of command — are standard operational practice with strategic signalling value.
